The War Against Air Pollution

Many Americans today believe that air pollution is constantly getting worse. Air pollution statistics however, show that vast improvements are being made in the United States. Through Government regulations and more conscious efforts by the American public; air pollution statistics actually show slight decreases. EPA statistics show about a 48% decrease in air pollutant emissions across the board. This is a good sign for many Americans who believe that the government hasn't made significant strides in the battle for a cleaner environment.
There are about 2 million premature deaths each year caused by air pollution. This has to be taken seriously by the American public and our government. Polices such as the Clean Air Act have been adopted to try to regulate these harmful emissions into the air. This policy will attempt to regulate the amount of harmful emissions that a company is allowed to release in a monthly period. Although it has come under some major scrutiny by the American people because it could in essence cause business to have to close their doors; the Clean Air Act could become a useful weapon in decreasing air pollution.
The major weapon that we have in this effort has always been education. A well educated public can take the facts that they know and have been taught and through conscious efforts can decide for themselves what decisions either personal or government mandated will improve the quality of the air that they breathe. We as a people in general want to live a healthy lifestyle. However an uneducated people group can not make a conscious decision about the air quality around them. This is where we as a  society we need to band together to make sure that we educate the public of the harmful effects of air pollution. It is not just the governments job to improve our environment; it is a group effort. Together through the voices of  concerned citizens and a government who is willing to do whatever it takes to improve the lives of their people; without costing American jobs in the process  could significantly change the world.
